FOR THOSE PREPARING FOR A MARRIAGE OUTSIDE OF THE CATHOLIC CHURCH, THE FIRST SESSION WOULD BE: SETTING EXPECTATIONS

Convalidation

If you have been married civilly and are looking to have your marriage blessed in the Catholic church, we offer four preparation sessions.

Convalidation preparation involves building on the foundation of a civil marriage to prepare you for the additional aspects of a sacramental marriage. Because those seeking convalidation vary widely in their experience of marriage, the preparation cannot be a “one size fits all” approach.

We offer four one-on-one sessions with couples and tailor the preparation to the individuals involved. We begin with The Catholic Take on Marriage to make sure you understand how the church views marriage.

The sessions can flex, based on the expectations of the priest or deacon you work with, the length of your marriage, and whether the spouses both are from the Catholic tradition.

You will be given time to talk with each other within each of the sessions, and will receive a certificate of completion at the end.
